The Vogur Lodge is located in some agricultural fields at the base of old volcanic hills that rise up steeply to the north of the lodge, running parallel to the south shore of the peninsula. My husband walked up the waterfall behind the lodge, up onto a flat area at the top. This took a few hours. You can also just take a nice walk through the fields to the base of the waterfall. Or, heading west in less than a half hour drive along the road, you come to a lovely walk along the coastline among the convoluted inlets to a historic church and graveyard. Lots of seabirds rising up and calling to each other as we passed... A wonderful walk. There is a great old hot spring, perhaps from the Viking era?, about a half hour drive east along the fjord then north about a km. It is lined with rocks and moss, in the open hillside, with a classical old changing room. Be sure to visit the Leif Erickson museum (south of the peninsula a short distance...about a one-hour drive from the hotel). It's a very good museum, and also has a good restaurant/cafe. We stayed two nights, which seemed like enough given that my father was with us and he's not able to walk long distances. This is a good site for people who love this kind of countryside and either like to drive a lot each day or like to climb difficult hillsides such as the one next to the waterfall behind the Lodge. The Vogur lodge serves both dinner and breakfast. The dinners are superb, and the breakfast is a classical continental breakfast. Our room was large and open. The staff is very friendly, lively, competent, and interesting. A strong asset.

Incredible place, far from civilisation, yet very comfortable. You have to drive at least 30 km on F-road (no tarmac) to get there so in case you hire your car, make sure it is allowed to go there. Nearest shop or gas station is over 50 km away, so plan accordingly. You will be rewarded with really amazing surrounding (waterfall included, a must see), absolute silence and a break from noisy crowds. The staff was wonderful, very friendly, helpful and caring. We also tried the dinner and although the choice is (understandably) a bit limited, all food that we had was simply delicious. Wifi was good. Beds were comfortable and the rooms clean. The rooms have no refrigerators but the staff offered to store our food in theirs. You can use an outside hot water bathtub free of charge. This place is certainly not for everyone but if you enjoy solitude far from crowds and unspoiled nature, Vogur is definitely one to recommend.

This place was fantastic! The drive to the location was spectacular, despite some portion of the trek being unpaved, but not as wild as a true F road in Iceland. Assuming that the gent who manned the counter most of the time was/is the owner, he was great. Fantastic sense of humor and great with providing information on the local area and things to do. The place was clean, beautiful and there is even a waterfall on the property that you can easily walk to. Additionally, they have a restaurant attached to the property and the food was exceptional. We used the location as our base to drive the whole Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Would love to go back and stay longer.

We were a group of 4 Adults & Three teenagers. We had two complete breakfast experiences as well as two evening meals at our leisure. The food was plentiful with variety and originality. The staff was warm & welcoming and interacted very nicely with the kids. This is already the location they are talking about as their favorite during our 10 day Icelandic Adventure. Special "Kudos" to Ania & Artur . They were attentive hosts who took extra efforts to interact with the three children in our group. That focus was sincerely appreciated !

Great, great place in a very remote are. We arrived late and they were very kind to accomodate us, rooms were super large, spacious, great furnishings. All was excellent quality, bed and mattress and pillows were all great. We did not take breakfast, just had some coffee buy we saw the breakfast table and it looked great with a lot of options. The lady who was there was very kind and nice. ++ for the two doggos on site who were suuuuper cute.
